When the story is read by a familiar voice
A story can be heard in a professional narrator's voice or in a parent's own. The second is built with explicit consent, recorded, and deletable on request.
Reading the book yourself every evening is not always possible. A night shift, a trip, two children and one adult — evenings do not always go to plan.
On selected plans a story can be listened to in two ways: professional studio narration, or a parent's own voice.
Why your own voice is an option
A familiar voice is one more piece of what is already familiar about the evening: the same bed, the same order, the same voice. Making that portable for the evenings you cannot be there is, for us, the whole reason the feature exists.
Narration is not a replacement for reading together
No recording replaces reading together — turning the page at the same time, answering a question, laughing in the same place are not recordable things. Narration is a fallback for the evenings you cannot read; it is not an argument against the ones you can.
It works offline too
A downloaded story opens on a plane or in a summer house with no signal. We think an evening routine should not depend on a connection.
